In order to phase out the use of single-use plastic in line with the government's action plan for environmental conservation, pollution control and protection of the environment, environment and biodiversity, a notification was issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on August 28, 2024, identifying 17 products as single-use plastic in light of Rule 9 of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2021. In view of this, in order to gradually stop the use of single-use plastic, in the first phase, the production, import, marketing, sale or display for sale, storage, transportation for commercial purposes and use of these three products - Straw, Stirrer and Cotton Bud - have been completely banned from June 1, 2025.
